Fake fans and 5 minute fans!

So there is this lovely craze that I can't stand! People who think they are suddenly the biggest fan of something they have liked for 5 minutes and try to pretend they know all the in jokes and everyone and everything to do with what ever it is they are fanning for!
For those of you that read my  Things that proper wind me up blog will know that I cannot stand the phrase biggest fan and do not believe that such thing exists.
If you take a liking to something new, then fine, but don't then try to pretend you have been a fan since the very beginning. You will always get caught out, trust me!

I will use Girls Aloud and Legally Blonde the Musical as my examples as they are the things I know most about lol! Although I am 100% sure you get this with anything/person that has fans!

You can tell the new fans a mile off, they are the ones who come in after a few years and start waffling about facts that other fans learnt in the beginning but never really mention anymore. They are the ones who refer to GA as Cheryl Cole, The ginger one, the mouthy one, the Irish one and the other one. They are the people who go to see their "favourite" show, the one they are the "biggest" fan of, yet don't actually know the cast by name and refer to them by their characters name. They are the ones who try to get in with the people who actually have been going for a while and know the cast real names, so it can look like they have always been there to! They are the ones who claim to know the cast and speak to them all the time, but don't actually approach them to speak to them when they see them. They are the ones who join in to only laugh when u laugh, only scream when you scream, clap when u clap (u get the picture lol). These are the people who stop cast and ask for a picture before even finding out their name or whether they are even in the cast at all. These are the people who will ass lick a cast member, claim they are their biggest fan and that they have followed them their whole life, but then never quite manage to follow them to their next show cos in actual fact you just liked the character they played and the attention it brought you from being their "fan"

A lot of this came in with Girls Aloud when Cheryl Cole went solo and on X Factor. Millions of young girls became her fan and then took it upon themselves to say they have been a fan since the very beginning and then rush around to buy every piece of material they have ever made in a bid to be that "biggest" fan, even though u can't quite fully name the rest of the group without looking it up!
This happens with others as well, others that I've seen. To be honest, in my opinion, I don't think you need to own every single thing they have done to be a big fan. You don't win an kind of prize for having the most stuff, that person is not gonna come round and pat you on the back for wasting money on stuff they probably would quite like to forget.

As most of you probably know I am a Girls Aloud and Sheridan Smith fan, I don't own everything they have ever done, I have seen/heard every single piece of TV/Film/Radio work they have done, cos tbh some of it I'm just not interested in, I'm not about to go and buy Lark Rise To Candleford just because Sheridan appeared in a few episodes, I didn't make myself sit through Suck My Pop, after discovering within the first few weeks that it was a little bit shit, just because Kimberley Walsh hosted it.
People who make a point of owning everything are exactly what the first part of the title of this blog is, the second part is what they become, then they look back at all the stuff they brought in their moment of madness and begin to flog it on ebay!

If you wanna be a fan of something, then fine be one, but stop trying to out do others, you're all fans of the same thing, you should be joining and celebrating whatever/whoever it is, not fighting over who has who's autograph more, who's met them more, who that person tweets/speaks to more.
Just because they have spoken to that person more, simply means they have met them more, not that the certain person likes them better. If they've had more tweets is probably because you only tweet them a couple of times and week and they tweet them a couple of times an hour!

Just feel safe in your own knowledge that you know you support that person, cos really that's all that matters in the end

But to the saddo's who find the need to lie about it all, don't bother, true fans can always see straight through you ;)
